BROADBAND IS HERE - Speed & Financial Opportunity
October 9, 2011Happy Independence Anniversary.
Many agree that, the Telecoms sector in Nigeria has been GROWING at a wonderful / healthy rate for about 10-12 years now, since the liberalisation of the sector!
“Growth” means that money is being made – especially, as services, e.g. Telephone services move from a few people (Niche) to a mass (Consumer) market. Now the ability to spot the definite, not pretentious, start of a trend, and staying the course, may well be the distinguishing factor between those that will make money & those that will not!
We identify 3 clear services/technologies/trends (whatever you choose to call it) – since the said liberalisation – that have made money (grown), are making money (growing) or that’s about to explode (make money)!
- VSAT /Radio Internet: Do you remember when One set of VSAT hardware cost over One Million Naira? Do you remember when Radio (Mast) was the primary means of accessing the internet in your Office/Home/Business? Today, a set of premium-quality 1.2 meter Ku-band VSAT can easily be acquired for N49,999 (some Operators may even offer you free hardware, if only you’ll pay for 1-year service). To be sure, the VSAT / Radio business spurred & sustained quite a number of SMBs/Companies for over 7-10 years! (in fact, quite a few are continuing to service the Offshore / Deep-Offshore Oil & Gas companies, and other Remote locations)!
- GSM / Recharge-Card Telephony: You surely do not want to recall the days of NOUGHT-NINE-NOUGHT (090) telephony. This was (Analog) Mobile Telephony alright, but at the time, clearly for the Super-Rich (Niche). However, the advent of the (Digital) GSM telephony has changed all that. Notice that prices of handsets as well as services (airtime) keep reducing. This has clearly become a Mass Market. Those who engaged in Recharge Card Vending – or even Mobile Phone Sales – and remained with it, clearly have success stories to tell today. Some form of elementary Data / Internet services have also been going on, but these have been largely sub-optimal, and “sub-broadband” speeds; not widespread, did not have the required back-end Bandwidth supply, etc.
- BROADBAND Internet: The future is here (ok, starts now)! In just about one year (only), International Internet Bandwidth FIBRE-OPTIC sources into Nigeria have grown from just one (Nitel SAT3) to about four (SAT3, MainOne, Glo1 and soon-to-be-launched in Q1 2012 WACS). In fact, some GSM (Glo, MTN), CDMA(Visafone, Multilinks, Starcomms) and WiMax (Mobitel, Swift, MTN) companies have all been providing some form of 3G/4G for some time now. However, it is Etisalat that has now changed the game, with its recent launch of its HSPA+ service. And, it can only get better, as other Operators try to beat Etisalat to it (or at least match their offering). IT’S ALL GOOD FOR THE CONSUMER! Notice also, that for just N5k – N15k per Month per USB Dongle, Individuals, Households, Offices and SMBs can now enjoy good & qualitative Internet services in Nigeria. And, there’s no reason the current pricing regime shouldn’t fall further, as competition hots up.
ENTER BROADBAND SHARING
Sharing Consumer Internet access before now was not such a wonderful proposition – how do you share and meaningfully utilise/enjoy a slow link? Basic data services were either patchy or not very reliable, let alone allowing sharing. (Never mind that some of us have been sharing for circa 4 years now). But, things have been getting better…
Now, 3G/4G Consumer Broadband Internet Sharing
has become “the next big thing”, as people begin to find ways to utilise,
optimise and enjoy the SPEED that has
now come their way, while at the same time, reducing unit consumption COST!
Our Devices work with ALL networks in Nigeria! Check out our "Product gallery" section.
